The Bear's Cage
By Lori Romero
Rain bands blacken the sky,
like cheap metal on wrists,
squid ink that portends danger.
Rain-wrapped, the tornado
hides like a secret in a magician's cape -
now you see it, now you don't,
birds fly out in every direction.
Rain curtains part
reveal a charcoal wedge
transform into a slippery feral funnel.
