When I Went Looking for You the First Time
Stephanie Morgan

Beginning with the places close to home, I remember that day on the hill in the sun. I had thought a picnic, lounging around together on a blanket, would be a nice change. We were never outside much. The blanket I brought was scratchy, but I loved toeing off my sneakers, cooling my hot feet in the summer grass. Seeing the park now, I remember how uncomfortable you seemed, how out of your element. I don't think you meant to snap at me, but my feelings were hurt anyway. I didn't say a word to you the entire way home.
