Everything Needs Fixing

About the song:

This song is basically a list of things that needed fixing in my life at the time. In fact, thinking about it, they were all little things that are a big drag to fix but somehow don't quite prevent things from working-totally frustrating. Maybe it's a parable about the general maintenance of a world that's become too complicated for individuals to keep up.

Lyrics

cork for the tenor,
head for the banjo,
pots on the mercury,
just crack and die out.
old 50's glasses
still need a prescription,
my left knee crackles
every time it rains.
everything needs fixing,
everything needs fixing
from the day it is made.

knobs on the dresser,
grill on the Fender,
soles for my work boots,
lock on the trunk,
plants are all dying,
hair needs some styling,
sharpen my pencil and
continue to write.
everything needs fixing,
everything needs fixing
from the day it is made.

the electoral system,
payphones on Mission,
soul of a nation,
soul of a man,
new leaky window,
old San Francisco
can hardly remember
the way we began...
